Standing Alone At The Sunset

As the fall colours take over the summer greens, I quietly drove to my favourite spot, the West Dyke Trail and stood by the overgrown cattail fields and watched the sunset. I held my breath as the cattails danced in the wind and the red-winged black birds sang a tune. I wanted to capture that moment... here's my best shot.

It's been harder and harder for me to write about myself as I age. I remember back in the days of high school, I used to pump out pages and pages of thoughts and random non-sense like word vomit spilling onto cyberspace. Now, I sit here and think, who am I and what do I want the world to know. And here goes:

I'm a 26 years old woman/girl in Vancouver, the world's most BEAUTIFUL city. I have trouble finding balance in life when it comes to work and art. I love art and would love to breathe and eat art but that sadly does not work for me. When I find free time I take photos and paint. I haven't uploaded any of my paintings here because that's still a work in progress. I believe in truth and honesty. I believe in karma (heavily). I am also a bit of a dreamer, but who isn't?

I hope you enjoy my work (mostly photography) and that it'll inspire you or at least, put a smile on your face.

Summer time, and the living is easy

Sick day count # 4. It's been hard sitting around doing nothing but at the same time it's given me a chance to think about my direction. Hence signing up for premium service here on DA and about time too! To think I've been missing out all these extra services (i.e. portfolio) all these years. Now I can really start pursuing this goal I've set to achieve.

Meanwhile, laying on my back in the backyard today soaking up some good old fashion vitamin D, I couldn't help but notice the beauty that surrounded me. The magnolia tree foliage above my head, the bees buzzing around. The new needles on the pine tree and the tiny flakes of fluff that's floating around in the air... it literally took my breath away. Okay, maybe it was that my nose is still clogged up and I can't breathe properly, but regardless... it was a beautiful moment. That's when the Sublime's song came into my head:

Well life is too short, so love the one you got
Cause you might get run over or you might get - shot
Never start no static, I just get it off my chest
Never had to battle with no bullet proof vest
Take a small example, take a tip from me
Take all of your money, give it up to charity
Love's what I got, is within my reach, and
The sublime style still straight from Long Beach
It all comes back to you, you bound to get what you deserve
Try and test that, you're bound to get served
Love's what I got, don't start a riot
You'll feel it when the dance gets hot

And I smile.

Listen to the song the Earth sings. Its violin is the fields of grain and the great vast oceans of blue . Its bow is the wind. Listen to its beautiful song.....Listen.

I love the way you shoot the firecracks (am I saying it right?), I've also tried once, but failed immediately... Any tips?

I am guessing you're talking about the fireworks? :) tips... I guess just to keep your hands steady. A tri-pod for your camera would be perfect.

Other than that, I'm not really sure. I'd try keeping the shutter speed slower so to capture the lights maybe? These were experimental for me as well. Glad you liked them :)

I checked out your profile and see that you're in Athens. You live in a lovely city. I hope I get to visit it again sometime. :) oh and I hope they've had the fire under control now in the rural areas.

take care!

I hope to visit Greece again some time. I really loved the culture, the food and the architecture. Actually, I just went to a Greek Festival today and donated money to help with the fire. The spinach pie was good but I miss the cappuccino freddo from Athens.

Aw, spinach pie rules!!! And cappuccino freddo too! :) Yes, I donated some money, too, because many people suffered again from this....the curse of a hot place!
